Our business started in 1996 in Winthrop MA. We were a fully functioning walk-in bakery and over time we started to develop a following creating gift baskets filled with our freshly baked goods. We provided an assortment of hand-made cookies, breads, specialty cakes and pastries and filled decorative baskets with the products. Soon we were in the gift basket business.
A customer’s request for a sympathy basket created our signature condolence basket and our motivation to being “THE FLOWER ALTERNATIVE” It was evident that people needed another means to express their sympathy. Food, especially bake goods, brings a lasting comfort that flowers simply cannot. We are proud and honored to provide a gift which allows people to share comfort as well as memories.
In 2006 we relocated to Northampton Massachusetts in the heart of the Pioneer Valley. The relocation has provided us an opportunity to start anew and hence nouveau GIFTBASKET CO . “THE FLOWER ALTERNATIVE” made its debut.
Our goal is to continue to provide only the most outstanding freshly baked products, created for all occasions. New this year, are the pet baskets. Whether to thank your veterinarian, a groomer, a dog sitter, or simply to extend condolences to someone having lost their loving pet, our baskets fit the occasion.
As a company, we are dedicated to doing business with a social conscience. We use recycled, corrugated shipping boxes as well as water soluble, biodegradable packing peanuts. We also recycle all glass, plastic and paper products within our production. On our planning board are a green fund raising basket, a Valley local product basket and an organic spa basket.
For those of you who find that being part of the creation of your gift is important and fun, we will soon be introducing a “Build a Basket” component to our website. You will be able to virtually hand pick the products you want to include in your gift.
